Schwab Strategist Says Fed Rate Hike Odds Rise After June Meeting

Collin Martin of the Schwab Center for Financial Research expects inflation to remain sticky and the Fed to stay patient, but notes a rate hike has become slightly more likely following the June FOMC meeting and a fresh hot inflation reading.

A fixed-income strategist at the Schwab Center for Financial Research sees a modest increase in the probability of a Federal Reserve rate hike after the central bank's June meeting and the latest hotter-than-expected inflation data.

Collin Martin, head of fixed income research and strategy, said the firm continues to expect inflation to remain sticky and the Fed to maintain its patient stance. However, he acknowledged that the combination of the June policy meeting and the recent inflation report has made a rate hike "a little bit more likely."

The comment adds a slightly more hawkish tilt to the outlook, though it stops short of predicting an imminent move. Markets will now watch for further data and Fed commentary for confirmation.
