Canadian Dollar Gains Relief Against USD as Rate Spreads Narrow
Scotiabank strategists note the Canadian Dollar (CAD) has strengthened modestly as US/Canada short-term rate spreads retreat from last week's highs, though differentials remain wide.
Scotiabank strategists Shaun Osborne and Eric Theoret observed that the Canadian Dollar (CAD) has found some relief against the US Dollar (USD).
The improvement comes as front-end US/Canada interest rate spreads narrowed by approximately 10 basis points from last week's peak, reducing some of the pressure on the loonie. Despite the pullback, rate differentials persist at elevated levels.
The CAD's modest gain reflects a temporary easing of the spread-driven headwind, though the broader outlook remains tied to the trajectory of monetary policy divergence between the Bank of Canada and the Federal Reserve.
